Welcome

My name is Demytris Savage-Short and I am running for School Board in District 1. I moved to Nashville Tennessee in 2009 for employment purposes. My profession is pediatric nursing, but my passion is advocacy and education. Within the fifteen years of nursing, eleven of those years have been in pediatric nursing. The majority of my career has been about serving and teaching the patients and families along with being their advocate.

During the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020, I got the opportunity to focus on my children’s education. I quickly realized that our parental rights (according to the Tennessee Parental Rights Laws) and authority were in serious danger and still are. I realized that the government was attempting to take the place of parents to disciple our children. I prayed about the next steps and was inspired by Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Education begins at home with the parents.

I am married to Nashville native Marvin Short, and we have a blended family of three children. Our eldest graduated from Hillsboro High School. Our middle child attends Community Base Training Program for special needs children. Due to the indoctrination of children that is currently within the public education system, we decided to homeschool our third child.

There is a special place in my heart for special needs children within the school system. Children with an IEP tend to not get the educational resources that are available and needed because parents are not aware of what is available to them. I have the experience to be able to fight for the rights of our special children. I will be able to get the educational resources needed in order for them to succeed in life after leaving the public education system.
